How Molly Got Her Name

I know the superstition surrounding the change of a boat's name, but "Green Eyed Lady" just didn't fit who we are and how we see our trawler. As we drove the 10 hours from NY, back to Michigan, we had fun thinking up a new name for her. Laughing until we cried, we shouted out possible names, such as, "A Little Nauti," "Seas the Day," "Piece of Ship," "Eggs-Ta-Sea," but none of them seemed quite right. Dave's Mother, Virginia, had passed away a little over a year before and she loved to go sailing with us. We wanted to pay tribute to her life and love so we wanted to name the boat after her. We thought of calling the boat "Ginny," Mom's nickname, but we weren't sure. Then Dave remembered that her husband always called her "Molly." They had a motor home that they drove all over the country after retirement and on the tire cover on the back of the motorhome was painted, "Molly and Me." The  name "Molly"was perfect! We had no doubt!
Mom: "Molly"
